1. What is Boy Scout?
- To promotes character, outdoor activities, good citizenship, and service to others
- The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with 2.7 million youth members and over 1 million adult volunteers. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA
- Scouting is all about FUN
2. Who can join?
- BSA for boys ages 11 to 18. (Boys who have achieved the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award or have completed the 5th grade can join as young as 10 years old)
3. Boy Scout Benefits?
- A 2005 study by Harris Interactive found that
o 83 % agrees that the values they learned in Scouting continue to be very important to them today.
o 87% who remained in Scouting 5 and more yrs attribute some of their self-confidence in their work to their Scouting experience.
o 50% say Scouting had a positive effect on their career development and advancement
o 83 % say there have been real-life situations where having been a Scout helped them be a better leader.
- It provides distinct advantages in college admission and in the job market.
o Boy scout's resume will be rich with extracurricular experiences, leadership, and community service that colleges and employers are seeking.
o Being an Eagle Scout is a great accomplishment and a positive indication of leaderships and long term commitment. In addition, the Scouting experience provides examples to use as the basis for college interviews and essays.

4. Why Troop 1993?
- Founded on Jan. 2013 we are new but building a solid tradition.
- We currently have about 20 scouts and 7 adult leaders and are rapidly growing.
- Our boys and adult leaders are well trained. We proudly received the District Patrol Awards for last two years.
- Our Troop Motto: Small but act big
o Outings: We love camping. We love to discover the beauty of the nature in the West. We go to National/State Parks.
o Service Activities: We love to share. We have monthly service projects.
o Fundraising: We have semi-annual fundraiser activities. These activities not only help our finance but also help boys building up skills in planning and executing.
o Advancement: We do care about the rank advancement for each and every boy. We help every boy to achieve the highest goal, the EAGLES.
- Various leadership position opportunities
o All of our boys have a leadership position and rotate every six months.
- We have many high ranked scouts (2 stars and 7 lifes) and they are always ready to help and teach new and young scouts.
- We are one big family. We discuss, plan and act as a family.
5. Parents involvement and roles?
Our troop currently has seven fully trained adult leaders. They are very active and fully engaged in all troop activities. Parents’ involvements of troop activities are voluntary. As boys are building up friendship throughout the troop activities, our parents also do so. Followings are examples of parents’ involvements.
- As a father: attend monthly committee meetings, join campouts and monthly hiking/biking, join father’s social meetings
- As a mother: attend monthly committee meetings, participate fundraiser activities
